We left our safe and dry AmericInn at 7:43 after the kids had breakfast and made quick friends with the couple next to us and told them our whole saga from last night. We had lunch in Iowa around 11:30 and found a park that the kids could finally really play at. The weather was just about perfect, even though our lunch wasn't. Dinner was at Des Palinas IA at 4:32. We had planned on going to a Diners, Drive-ins and Dives feature, Paradise Pup and even checked with Dad and Sara to make sure it looked ok. Sara's response was YUM!, so off we went, just to find that it was closed. We decided to turn to Garmin once again and choose to go safe with Chile's. Once we got there, we found a local fast food place called Culver's, saw that it was hoppin and switched our minds. It was good stuff...no Burgerville, but a nice surprise. Wylie was happy that they served grilled cheese. She has never ate them at home, but it was the best thing in the world at Culver's. We also found a Target in the same parking lot and attempted to return the DVD, but no luck! I did learn some important things to say and not say, so I will try it again somewhere else. We arrived in South Bend Super 8 at 7:26, gave baths and showers that were much needed, watched a little Dr. Doolittle and went off to dreamland.
Lessons Learned:
-Stay flexible, be appreciative and everything will work out
-Sushi from HyVee in Iowa isn't the best, but mostly edible and doesn't make you sick
-Garmin is pretty smart, but she doesn't know when roads are closed and is sometimes really bullheaded about going her way
Funny Sights:
-60' tall Jolly Green Giant
Cute Moments:
- Wylie: "Cade, I am not your mama." Five minutes later: "Cade, we do not yell and pinch each other. That's not nice."
-Wylie is super psyched about giving rocks to her cousins and friends. She bought them at the Corn Palace and thinks they are the greatest-just ask, she'll tell you all about it!
-I have come to fully realize just how much my kids are like Jon and me. Cade knows all of the hand motions to all of the children's songs we have been listening to along the many miles and Wylie knows all of the words. I think we have a kinestetic and verbal learner on our hands.
